Flood havoc in Chadarghat areas due to opening of Gate of Himayat Sea in Hyderabad

After heavy rains in Telangana, Hyderabad is under threat of floods. Due to the rise in water level in Himayat Sagar and Usman Sagar reservoirs, the authorities opened the gates on Friday, causing flood water to the Mousi river. Flood water entered houses in low -lying areas like Musa Nagar and Shankar Nagar in Chadarghat area, causing panic among the local residents. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has transferred 55 families to safe places.

Due to heavy rains, heavy water flow was recorded in Himayat Sagar and Usman Sea. Hydrababad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) opened eight gates of Usman Sagar and four gates of Himan Sagar by 12 noon, while till 5 pm, a total of 12 gates were opened of Usman Sagar and 9 gates of Himayat Sagar. This released about 22,000 cusecs of water in the Mousi river, resulting in the lower bridge of Chadarghat to be submerged. People started fleeing by tying their belongings due to flood water entering residential colonies located in Musa Nagar and Shankar Nagar. In the video footage, the local people are running from the houses on the police warning and running towards the high places.

People were removed from these areas

Police and GHMC teams remained active throughout the day. Families affected by the nearby areas of Shivaji Bridge and the Bhoomi Lakshmi Temple were transferred to the God-K-Kabh Kabhi GHMC Community Hall, where they are being provided temporary shelter, food and medical assistance. Officials said that the water level of Hussain Sagar has also reached 513.45 meters above the full tank level (+513.41 m), while the maximum water level is 514.75 meters. The flow was 680 cusecs, while the exit remained 895 cusecs. Traffic has been discontinued on Musarambagh Bridge and Jiaguda Road, and passengers have been advised to adopt an alternative route.

Manjar is reminiscent of the 1908 flood

This boom of the Mousi River is reminiscent of the 1908 terrible floods, when the city suffered heavy damage due to the river. It was only after that disastrous incident that Himayat Sagar and Usman Sagar were built, which were built to protect the city from floods. Currently, HMWSSB has released two flood warnings and asked the residents of low -lying areas to be vigilant. Revenue, police and disaster management teams are on alert.

The Chief Secretary has instructed that all the concerned departments should work in coordination. Experts say that if the rains continue, the danger may also increase in other areas like Atapur, Nagole and Jiaguda. The residents have been appealed not to go to the river, stay away from bridges and follow the instructions of GHMC. At present, there is no news of any casualty, but the situation remains serious.
